UK Discord users, we're part of a Peter Thiel-linked data collection "experiment"

Discord have belatedly confirmed that they’re working with Persona, an identity detection firm backed by a fund directed by Palantir chairman Peter Thiel.

All told, I would prefer not to participate in any identity verification “experiment” bearing Thiel’s fingerprints, particularly not one that uses machine learning to check your identity in the background. Peter Thiel and his company Palantir, are arguably one of the most evil companies on the planet today - really, really, bad if a company is using them or is connected with them in any way.

I think this says a lot about Discord and its leadership than it does about Peter Thiel, who is also not innocent in this.

The problem is that Discord is so tied to gaming and is the biggest product in that area, with no convincing alternatives, and that leaves users in a critical, defenceless position.

On the flipside, if users from the UK are being asked for consent and being shown notifications, then users from Africa are screwed. Their data has most likely been stored and is being mined and used as we speak.
