One of the best articles I’ve read on this topic of AI replacement.

Looking at it from an “Art of War” perspective, the message is:

  1. Know yourself - your skills and abilities.
  2. Know your enemy - understand AI, its strengths, weaknesses and limitations.
  3. Know the terrain - look at where the world is going and what it needs and how you can take advantage of opportunity.

If you do that, then as Sun Tzu says: “Your victory will not be at risk.”.

In the long run, when almost every engineer has been replaced by LLMs, all companies will still have at least one engineer around to babysit the LLMs and to launder their promises and plans into human-legible commitments. Perhaps that engineer will eventually be replaced, if the LLMs are good enough. But they’ll be the last to go.

This is scary!

Haha don’t know how I missed that part. But that’s the main theme of the article: be that last guy!

I agree. I still feel that someday, there will be fewer programmers in the world :frowning:

Absolutely! Just think that you are in a big company and you alone need to verify work of thousands new developers with no experience. So-called “AI” is even worse … It does not understand at all what it returns which makes it wrong in almost everything. Some “AI” even if they declare that they know some language are unable to produce a code that would compile. Why going for so complex tasks?

The “AI” cannot even tell what the series is and what characters it have. I can’t imagine fixing the code generated by “AIs” that are going to replace thousands of people. I would even say that’s rather not possible do to for a single person. So either the whole IT will drastically slow down or every developer would earn many millions instead of thousands for the job.

It’s right time to stop that panic. The panic does not gives anything good, but also it’s dangerous for everyone around. There is a bigger chance that the humanity would destroy itself in scare of “AI” rather than fighting with it. That would be really funny if it would be a comedy book, but it’s a reality and people need to finally wake up.
