Would really like to be able to try how fast M1 or M2 is, but they are really expensive.

What have you got atm Dani? I don’t think you’ll see a big jump for most things if your Mac is fairly recent…

I think the MacBook Air M1 will be good enough for many years to come if they do not slow it down deliberately.

I got both M1 Max and M1 Pro, for doing Elixir and Rust the later is quite sufficient. They have 32 gigs of RAM.

Have you noticed any downsides or the Apple silicon Macs? I’m probably going to wait until my Mac is at least 5 to 6 years old…

Not at all on a daily basis as a casual user.
But speaking of development, gee it was kinda terrible.
It’s not done yet but it was a hell of ride, considering C or C++ incompatibilty.
Like libs using low level bindings.

I got a 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro, and still using it a lot.
