For me extra 1 TB is nothing comparing to a Blue-Ray drive. Having in mind how huge are games today it’s terribly easy to collect quickly enough game discs and most probably many players already have lots of said discs especially in countries like Japan where many people are collecting manga, anime or games - now think that’s a Japanese company. 700 USD for just an upgrade which would not support someone’s huge disc collection is a joke, a very bad joke.

maybe the idea is to force people into digital copies, this way sony problably makes more money, since people are unable to lend or resell their copies…
And besides, it’s less expensive to sell a digital copy

Less expensive? After all those years creating discs should be terribly cheap. Having in mind how expensive games are it would be no even 1‰ of costs and in global market when everything is connected you don’t even have to own factory - you just order some number of discs. Do you think companies in Japan are stupid and are wasting money on discs? All the costs are paid by clients, so even if price would be doubled as long as the disc is sold it’s no difference for company. It’s not like that hosting is completely free … 
I always ask about a link to buy discs for any of 10s most popular anime series with Polish dubbing. So far no “crusader”, in this stupid “holy war” against pirates, have helped me … for over 22 years! But it was worth to make many attacks on anime community that was promoting anime in Poland. That’s how in practice such companies cares about money … In 21th century the ideology is more important than everything else …
Exactly! All the time I hear excuses from such companies. They are simply making better money from selling digital copies, but would always claim that their “holy war” is for a cost reduction, healthy planet or even world’s peace. It’s just a stupid marketing with a target for the mass.
