I heard from people it’s too hard to use for normal everyday activities like email, going online for services where you have an account etc. I want a super isolated OS one day and Qubes might be a good first step, but I keep hearing there’s a lot more work to be done.

I think a good intermediate step could actually be on the networking side - i.e a super smart router which acts a bit like LittleSnitch and has a server built in so it keeps copies of all data sent and received from the net and logged per device, per IP etc. I think it could be quite revealing - we already know Macs ignore the option to turn off safe-browsing (I have it switched off but safari stills tries to connect to Google’s Safe Browsing service on each request
- so I’ve just set little snitch to deny connections to it).
I think the govt needs to step up too, and ensure OS providers aren’t tracking user activity etc. I guess we can dream

I agree a lot btw! Unexpected comment from you, I have to say. You usually just say “maybe you should work on it Dimi”
It’s made me painfully aware how uneducated I am on the networking side… I really want to fill the gaps there one day.
