(a+ib)^2 = a^2 + 2iab - b^2, not a^2 + 2iab + b^2.
In the next line, c = a^2 - b^2, not a^2 + b^2.

Thanks for pointing this error. Yes, (a + ib)^2 = a^2 + 2iab + (ib)^2 = a^2 + 2iab - b^2; and c= a^2 - b^2
