Software quality is more the result of a system designed to produce quality, and not so much the result of individual performance. That is: a group of mediocre programmers working with a structure designed to produce quality will produce better software than a group of fantastic programmers working in a system designed with other goals.

Heard this quote on The Changelog a few days ago (yes I’m behind on that too), and was wondering how he defines quality. Unfortunately he doesn’t; I’m always on the lookout for more input to refine my definition (Codosaurus: ACRUMEN). But he still has a great point.

True. That is why I always disagree with any big revamp that halt any support on the business side.
Building something robust needs a lot of validation in the actual use.
Imagining a revamp can improve system quality dramatically is not realistic. And it won’t pay the bill.
