Is this more for gaming use?
Probably. Gamers (and porn watchers) have long been in the forefront of pushing tech to its limits. Remember for whose purposes those GPUs the crypto-bros have been using, were originally created – it sure wasn’t for sysadmins.
Like what Dave?
Re this monitor, I wonder if they’ve done any studies on how the flicker impacts our brains - we know 60hz is not great for the eye, will 480 be better?
You’d be surprised, internet streaming video, new codec compression, etc… was pushed by that ‘industry’ in the early days, it’s because of them that it is as advanced now. Lol
What I think the 480hz will be best at is framerate scaling, it has a lot more fractional frame speeds than slower monitors, so it will be able to adjust on the fly a lot better, so even if you won’t be getting 480fps it will help with smoother framerates on lower speeds as well.
Yeah I was thinking streaming and compression possibly payments too…
Apple’s ‘true motion’ is 120hz and can slow down for the content displayed (to persevere battery life) but this kind defeats the object for me, I’d rather health was the primary driver (or at least it made an option)
