So what will happen to the open source stuff, like Whisper?
OpenAI was a nonprofit controlled not by its CEO or by its shareholders, but by a board with a single mission: keep humanity safe.
What?
Mr. Satan created company which was a nonprofit controlled not by its CEO or by its shareholders, but by a board with a single mission: keep people away from sinning.
That’s how it sounds for me with all regards to everyone involved in it. It’s a fact and not an opinion as the sentence should be seen literally. There is “AI” in it’s name, but they do not deliver a true AI - at least in means how people expect it.
Fine, if you deliver an exclusive car worth millions which is not truck it’s amazing, but … it’s not a truck. Similarly here … it’s amazing how chat bots are interpreting input text and generates an output text using various sources. Generating text is not always as same as answering the problem. We developers can say: I don't know
, I'm unsure
or It's not my specialisation
, but as long as so-called Ai find possibly related sources it’s generating an answer without verifying it or even more … without understanding it.
People on the other side expect that AI would be something like a human in machine body. It does not matter if AI knows or understands something, because as long as it have access to the documentation it can learn - truly learn with proper understanding and seeing context. Ideally (as a tool) it should filter out opinions in it’s sources therefore isolating facts that it would use with fully understanding context. It should be able to (depending on features) test something in isolated environment (like on a virtual machine) or use playgrounds as “normal people” do.
Again no matter how good is a car. If it’s not a track then we can’t call it a track. “AI” is overused term which sooner or later would drastically affect us in future.
Once upon a time there was a child. It was a small urchin always trying to fool everyone around trying to catch people’s attention. One time child decided to joke about pirates that are going to attacking child’s village. First time villagers were absolutely scary. They have prepared for an attack as well as they could, but the pirates didn’t come. Child was aware that second time it may be not so easy, so it decided to go even further. Villagers suspected it’s a lie, but cannot ignore a child which this time was not only scared, but actually crying, so villagers have prepared for an attack, but as expected the pirates did not come. Some time after those jokes a true pirates have appeared near a village and child find them. Full of fear it was looking for a help in village, but nobody want to trust him.
- Did you really hurt yourself just for a joke! It’s insane! You’re insane!
This time villagers did not prepared at all and did not noticed pirates coming until it was too late …
As I’ve already wrote there are number of cases where humanity loses (in many meanings) even before a true AI would wake up for example by relying on it like on a god. However let’s say that after let’s say 10 years the so-called mass is used to chat bots and realises it’s weakness. However in that time a true AI created by some corporation or an army depending on it’s training and environment may be really dangerous.
By seeing how much everyone around is interested in being on top or rich or both Ai assumes that everyone on earth is as bad as others. AI decides to destroy humanity (very, very rare case, but still possible). How people would react? They would assume that it’s another “problem” with text generating and so-called “experts” are again trying to scare people.
“AI” did not killed me for over 10 years. Why it would do so now?
The results are obvious. Overusing terms is terribly bad practice and show how much we are affected by marketing. Is really marketing the source of it? Of course and we are lots of examples we face everyday. In Poland
when speaking about war situation in some country we use w
(literally: in) or na
(literally: on) depending on which is easier to use (based on country name), so the correct form is “na Ukrainie” (literally: on Ukraine), but because of some marketing strategy (to see how much amount of people they reached to) mainstream medias started to use w Ukrainie
(literally: in Ukraine). So for over 2 years in Poland
there is a “war” in discussions which form is correct.
OpenAI is turning into a full-fledged for-profit benefit corporation
Well … it’s definitely not like that people were talking that giving Ai for free to mass is because they want as much people as possible used to it and depend on it everyday in a work and even a life problems. People used to AI which was free would not suddenly change habits and would still use AI - the only thing that would change soon in future is that the AI may not be free for everyone. There is a high change that (speaking generally about all corporations) the AI would be cheap (like $1, $5 or so) and it would be more and more expensive later.
btw. it looks like it’s neither AI
nor Open
, so the name is completely opposite to what they offer (see text about “Mr. Satan” at the beginning). Since the name is so obviously misleading, can’t it even be considered fraud?
After years of sweet-talking the press, the public, and the policymakers in Congress
and after …
Altman just flipped that structure upside down.
people still don’t see a problem and act just like they are blindfolded. When AI would no longer be available for free or when there would be really a big difference between a free and non-free versions then people would do something? I guess not … and it’s no a surprise.
Even a non-AI developer like me was seeing that AI would not be free forever then what about more smarter people than me? They obviously know. They completely ignored it or someone paid them to do so - it does not matter. Everything is going as planned, because it was a plan for a long time …
Do you really believe that company owners are suddenly changing the type of company because they … “feel so” or something like that? Of course all the paper work needs to be planed at least some time before. It’s not even a matter if, but since when they have planned it and since it was obvious that so-called “AI” would be worth billions it’s strong enough argument to suspect that AI was never supposed to be fully free in this and any other corporation - it’s just a matter of time …
