This is quite cool! I think all plug sockets should have one so we can check power usage of equipment.

I tested an old Yamaha amplifier and a new Yamaha receiver some years back and the power consumption between the two was huge (both were set to output one set of stereo speakers).

Except reading power levels involves taking a little bit of that power while also adding in some variances in it that didn’t originally exist, it’s a tradeoff. That’s why getting those little readers that you plug into a slot and then plug a cable in to it are so nice, you only have that cost when you need it. Plus cables wear out much faster so having one on a cable sounds annoying, lol.

I’m not sure where mine is now but I think it’s one like this:

Would be interesting knowing how much it adds on to the total…

But how the hell do you put 8 of these in a power strip and be able to actually read each, separately?

Always bothered me. I really want to monitor the power usage of some of my tech but having to do porn poses with my ass in the air and below the desk when I want to do a reading just sounds mega-annoying.

I’d buy wifi ones if I wasn’t a techie and didn’t know how easy they are to hack. But maybe I have to make a proper research for those that are a little more secure (if there are any).

Maybe start by monitor the whole strip then doing them individually? Though somebody’s probably created a strip with individual monitoring I expect - for a premium I expect

I’ll pay. Send me a link.

They missed the memo that people don’t want to spend more money than they would save with the monitors… :man_facepalming:

In fairness to them their products are aimed at server farms/centers where this kind of monitoring is probably done per setup (to decide whether to purchase more of the same).

But anyway you said you’d pay

I actually would, and the link is bookmarked. But the tiresome part is that I’ll have to research and find feedback from people who already used it. If I am convinced of the product afterwards I’ll not bat an eye at 250 GBP.
