BunsenLabs Carbon shipped in February on Debian 13, though it dropped i386 support, which matters if you are working with truly ancient hardware.
It saddens me to no end this is the current state of things. Most of my old machines are i386. They work perfectly, but because of windows discontinued support (and now BusenLabs) maintaining them is not an option.
I still remember when I revived an old laptop 8 years ago as a Home media hub. Now if I want to do the same that simply is not possible.
Some people out there defend that you can use these old machines as smart home devices, routers or even game emulators for older consoles. The guide however does not mention any of this - I supposed such uses are too niche.
The article does a quick mention on Home Servers though (swapping to Ubuntu server for example), but I never really found a usage for this kind of thing. Still a good idea to keep in mind, if you can keep up the electrical bill.
