Reading the article, Sundar comes across as more level-headed than most AI optimists. But then again he was behind a lot of the cuts in the past year and a half so there’s that….
It is really hard to trust someone that has all interest for the bubble to not pop.
I don’t trust him either - he told YouTubers to make videos at least 11 minutes long so they can show more ads. This is why we now have YouTube videos last an hour or so long full of pointless fluff. He wrecked that platform.
Yeah, Youtube is a mess. I can’t stand those hour-long videos. Recently, they’ve been coming after ad blockers, displaying modals that ask you to subscribe to premium to avoid ads. Thankfully, my ad blocker evolved and caught them, but the site is sluggish.
This obsession with ads is ruining media and the internet.
Funny, me I can’t stand the “shorts” especially the programming shorts.
But you are right about some people uploading 3 - 4 hours videos where they mostly say nothing just hum and code. I wonder who actually watches these ?
Most of the shorts are junk, designed to spready gossip or useless “did you know” facts that won’t lead you anywhere.
Knowledge transfer takes time, but some of these hour-long videos and lectures are just so boring, it’s a miracle if anyone goes through half an hour of it. One is better off playing video games or going on Twitch.
We’re the receiving end of these mess. Even if it pops, we’re still in the walled garden by elites.
True. That walled garden is very hard to break out of, and even if you do, the alternatives don’t even come close to what is in the garden. It’s a catch-22.
I pray it pops.
My bad, I should really say wallet garden ![]()
