Devtalk 2022 Update!

Welcome to our 2022 update! :039:

Can you believe how quickly the year has past!? Time has flown by and covid certainly sped things along. The good thing is we’ve got a lot done over the last 12 months - we ported the Devtalk portal system to a couple of other sites and also launched the new Erlang Forums :003:

Devtalk itself only went live just 18 months ago, and in that time we’ve served over an awesome 6M pages - great going for a site of this age (just to put that in some sort of context the Elixir Forum served just over a million in its first year). As expected the number of views to our front page and portal system have been steadily growing too, and this isn’t surprising given it was designed to accommodate the large number of people who prefer to catch up with tech as and when they have time for it - much easier to do that in one place than having to hunt down or subscribe to multiple sites for each language or framework :sunglasses:

Now that the other projects are up and the basics here are in place we can finally relax - and get back to things like our book clubs  and once we’re all caught up we’ll be looking to start work on some fun projects (using cool tech like LiveView) and later, our custom community platform - something we’re super excited about! But more on that another time!

So what do we have in store for you this year? More cool stuff of course!

For those of you who want even more chances to win, we have similar giveaways on the Elixir Forum and the Erlang Forums too!

In The Spotlight!

Proudly in association with our friends at The Pragmatic Bookshelf, we’ll be hosting a number of Spotlights in our Spotlight section. These will consist of an interview followed by the thread being opened up to questions from you, the Devtalk community.

But there’s more!

One participant from the thread will be randomly selected to win one of that author’s books if the Spotlight in about a PragProg author or one of PragProg’s books if it’s a non-author Spotlight.

As a highly community-orientated platform we love things like this! Thank you PragProg for helping make it happen!

Members of the Year

Platforms like this would be nothing without helpful members like you. Whether that’s through keeping members updated by regularly posting news or other interesting threads, documenting your learning journey or encouraging others to, welcoming and posting in other people’s threads or simply helping them the good old fashioned way by answering questions. If you consistently add value to the community we are likely to notice - and we aim to recognise and reward more of you this year too - with the prize of an eBook of your choice from PragProg or Manning! Read on for last year’s MOTYs!

Last year’s MOTYs

We’ve got so many awesome members here - all of you adding value in your own way, whether it’s by being active, helpful, or using the platform to announce blogs and podcasts - it all helps and we’ve tried to recognise as many of you as we can. If you’ve posted content that has received attention or helped in some way then it’s a good chance we noticed …but it would be impossible to include everyone so please forgive us if you didn’t make the list. (However we’ll be giving away books as part of our book clubs so be sure to read that too!)

If you’re named here thank you and well done - and please read the bit at the end as we have an ebook for you!

:041: :041: :041: :041: :041:

As a thank you, we have an ebook for each of our winners! We have 25 books from PragProg and 25 from Manning so if you are listed above, please PM @AstonJ with your first choice from one publisher and your second choice from the other - we’ll then allocate these on a first come first serve basis :023:

Book Clubs

We were meant to do these last year but were so busy that we never got around to it! If you’ve been interested in learning something but haven’t got to it, or love the idea of reading a book with others or documenting your journey in a more solo journal - let us know! We have a set number of books to give away as part of this initiative and would love to see more book clubs going, and if you have some friends or colleagues to join you even better! PM @AstonJ with your interests and we’ll see what we can come up with

In Closing

Covid aside, the last 18 months have been a lot of fun and it’s been great getting to know so many of you. We know that we’ve been super busy with the other projects (particularly the last 6 months) but now they’re out of the way we’re ready to dive back into it all and start taking things to the next level! We’re super excited about some of the projects we might be working on this year and we’re even more stoked that it’ll be with you all, one of the coolest dev communities around

Thank you for being a part of Devtalk and we can’t wait to :speech_balloon: even more this year!

Wishing you all an amazing 2022! :blue_heart:

I owe a lot to this platform and Elixir forums, Learned tons from interacting with different people and with the giveaways. Without your platform and the friendly community itself, there’s no way i could push myself into learning cause I always procrastinate.

Thank you for the recognition it is a welcomed surprise after a stressful covid-year! Congratz to all the other winners too :man_dancing:

thanks for all your work :+1:

Can’t believe there’s a better place to share and spread knowledge than devtalk, elixirforum and erlangforum.
Thank you very much for all the hard work behind the scenes!

Thanks for keeping this forum running @AstonJ!
Sorry, I’ve been absent for the last couple of months. Life (and a kid) got in the way.

Happy New Year everyone !!
Lots of gratitude to DevTalk folks and @AstonJ, thanks for the recognition.

Here’s to a great 2022 :champagne:

Thanks very much. Here is a wonderful place to keep track with the latest technology in elixir and postgres.

Since I work for covid related stuff, I really hope covid will end soon in 2022 so that I can have time to contribute more.

Thank you for the recognition, more importantly thank you @AstonJ for all the hard work you put into this forum and elixir forum, now erlang forum as well. You seem to have a real skill for building great communities that attract so many bright and helpful people!
