No console price cuts, means no gamers, means no sales, means no profits. It’s a never ending crash and burn cycle that companies will have to learn the hard way.

It’s a shame to see gaming consoles starting to approach the prices of GPU cards.

If a PS5 is the same price as a GPU which works on a multi-purpose computer then what’s the incentive to buy a gaming console?

It used to be platform exclusives and architecture, but since they went to a PC-like architecture and now release most games on PC too it’s not become more about convenience and getting exclusives first and the general eco-system. Having said that I still prefer consoles..

I like consoles too, but I don’t see myself getting a PS5 anytime soon. The old PS4 is still working, and there are tons of games to play.

At the same time, time is at a premium and gaming seems boring compared to say playing an instrument or reading a book…

This hunger for profits at all costs while giving less is feeling so Apple like. Consoles will soon start being/looking “elitist” like the Macs and iPhones…

I’d say it’s worth upgrading if:

  • If you have a decent 4K TV
  • You want the PS5 exclusives

If you still game on a 1080p or 1440p monitor you’re not really going to benefit much really…

Sadly all the above are luxuries for me. 4K TVs aren’t a huge deal over here right now, maybe for the ultra rich.

I will take the PS5 exclusives though, alongside a free PS5
