It’s been a few months since my post on leaving Gmail which sparked a lot of discussion on Hacker News. Here’s an update on how things have been going after my move to Fastmail.

Interesting email service. I still prefer free email paying with my privacy.

That trade-off is probably the most interesting part here. Gmail is hard to beat for convenience when everything is already tied into the Google ecosystem, while Fastmail seems more appealing to people who would rather pay directly for the service instead of with their data.
For me, the hardest part of switching would probably be leaving all the integrations behind rather than the email service itself.
