What interests do you have outside of coding?

I live in Düsseldorf.

I try to get better in juggling. Right now I’m working on tricks with three clubs.

I can only do plate spinning or whatever it’s called. Juggling looks really cool though, especially when you can do around eight objects.

In Kaliningrad on a local TV and outdoors I promote a healthy lifestyle:

I like to practice in a city park and sometimes I go out of town (I walk along forest paths or along the seashore).

I love cooking (desserts without using the oven and flour).

I enjoy learning and communicating in various foreign languages. It so happened that I have friends in different countries and linguistic cultures. I always want to speak with them in their native languages.

By the will of fate, I was lucky enough to get acquainted personally, as well as with the books of the British scientist Richard D. Lewis - a culturologist, the founder of science, studying the peculiarities of cultures. His life inspires me.

A hobby that is still close to programming - I am translating technical literature into Russian (those that have not yet been translated).

My translation that I am most proud of is translating a book of Simon St. Laurent “Introducing Erlang 2nd Edition”.

The translation was made possible thanks to kind permission of O’Reilly Media

In Russia they know that the city of Kaliningrad is a city where many TV series are constantly filmed. Soon they are going to open a film studio here. Sometimes, I do cameo roles when filming TV shows (when I have a lot of free time - and this is still rare).

Those are delicious too! :yum:
In my library I found an old book of Soviet recipes. From there I took them. In hot weather, these desserts are especially good.

Strawberry jelly in orange.
image
Ingredients: 85g dry gelatin, 1.5 oranges, 3-4 strawberries.
Recipe:

  1. Make jelly: Pour gelatin with cold water, let it swell. Next, put it in a water bath and stir until it is completely homogeneous.
  2. Mixing: Gently remove the contents of the oranges from the peel, rub them in slices. Place them and the strawberries in a blender. Add cold water. Stir. Stir this mass with the dissolved gelatin. Pour the contents into molds (orange peel).
  3. Bringing to readiness: Place in a convenient place and wait for the gelatin to solidify.

All other dishes are prepared in approximately the same way. Only the ingredients change (it can be berries, cottage cheese).
The flaky jelly takes longer to prepare as you have to wait for each layer to solidify.

I wish you Bon appetit!

Niiice, thank you - printing the recipe out right away with the pictures - hopefully I’ll be successful!

Just to clarify few things - do you make the jelly in a jar like in this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1jpyXPdCRE - or do you have some other way you do the “water bathing”?

I wish you success, @tommica!

Everything in the video is very, very beautiful!
In practice, it turns out easier and faster. I take a saucepan, pour some water, heat it up. I put a container with jelly inside and wait for dissolution. Stir if necessary.

This thread is making me hungry! I think we need a cooking/recipes/diet thread :sunglasses:

Nice to see we have a TV star amongst us as well @rustkas!

I am very glad that I brought positive and vivid impressions to the developer forum @Devtalk.

These are themes that excite the imagination. :yum:
Note that, this is a very broad topic that can overshadow the topics of software development. :smiling_imp:

You have indeed! I love how you’ve settled in so quickly

I reckon we should do it!

Would you like to do the honours? Maybe start a thread in the Health & Diet section and call it something like “Cooking & Recipes Thread!” and with the body along the lines of… “Welcome to the Devtalk cooking and recipes thread! Please feel free to share recipes and/or photos or posts about things you’ve been cooking!” (or something like that  )

My word this photo looks like it’s not even real :star_struck: I can’t wait myself to take my little one to the mountains for walks and hikes once he gets a bit older…

I hope that the implementation will be worthy of the idea proposed by @AstonJ. :slightly_smiling_face:

Start early!

We’ve been through a small canyon recently. My 4yr old daughter did most of the way on her bare feet.

It’s sad that it’s rare that we have this opportunity at all… In northern Germany there aren’t as many nice routes as there are at my in-laws place…

We’ve also been on the “Feldberg” 2 years ago. Even there she walked a lot of the way alone.
