Hermit Programmers Are Dead

It’s 2021, and the job market has crashed due to a ghastly global pandemic. At the same time, one particular job has taken over an idealized professional place: the computer programmer. They are perceived to be experts who know how to build, fix, and deploy software artifacts. Most of them prefer to live in airtight environments, where the pieces of the software puzzle to be solved can be more easily isolated. That being said, at no other time in history has a technology-based job being so courted, demanded, highly paid. The reason: software is everywhere in today’s world, and it doesn’t write itself so far. However, with the advent of cloud computing and AI, the scenery may change soon for this profession. It’s time for programmers to mutate into sociable software engineers, recap and re-adapt, and take advantage of the only thing that machines cannot overtake: our human nature. Otherwise, I believe misfit programmers will perish… for sure.
