Following feedback by @DevotionGeo and @wolf4earth we now have different bots posting the different types of news:
- Our @NewsBot will post official language/framework news when the sources are linked to their respective portals. It will also have a reddish avatar to help differentiate it from the other bots.
- Our @CommunityNews bot will post news items that members initiate the posting of via the community feeds in our #members-only:news-alerts section. It will also have a greenish avatar.
We will also now group together GH release news for any portal when more than one is fetched at once

Another update… you can now save portals and a list of saved portals will appear in the left hand column of the main site to make it easier to quickly jump to portals of languages or topics that interest you:
It’s an early version of the feature and there is currently a limit of 35, but at some point we’ll add a “sign up to save more” to encourage people to register an account (and later still, where we have more threads for it to make sense, we’ll add a feed that filters by just your saved portals).
This is also part of our goal to help the front-page become useful for users who like to browse sites like this but don’t have the time or inclination to want to join up and visit daily just to keep up with things.
We’ve also added a new Ethics & Privacy section for threads relating to ethics and privacy in this industry - a topic that is becoming more and more important by the day and as has been mentioned by many of you on the forum already.
